Coping with Pregnancy Problems

Sunday, July 13, 2008

While it is probably true that no pregnancy ever came without just a bit of complication, not all of these pregnancy problems are all that serious. There might be women who go through difficult times during their pregnancy, there are others who are lucky enough to just experience minor problems that can be easily dealt with. The major pregnancy problems like diabetes, high blood pressure, edema, anemia and placenta praevia, among others, should be paid special attention to with the help of doctors. However, the more simple complications that pregnancy brings like nausea and vomiting and stretch marks are those that you can cope with, on your own.

Nausea or what many like to call morning sickness is one of the primary symptoms that you get when you have finally conceived. This is quite a bother, especially when you still have to work. While other expectant mothers remedy nausea by taking some medications prescribed by their doctors, there are others who find that changing the brand of their prenatal vitamins did them a world of good. However, there are a number of things that you can do to cope with nausea by yourself and you can do them quite easily even when you are at work. To minimize nausea, you can try taking light but frequent meals, taking care to stay away from fatty or greasy foods, as these can make you more nauseated. It is better if your meals are comprised always of fruits and vegetables as well as other fibrous foods. Drinking water always and avoiding strong odors are also ways to stop your insides from churning a lot. It also helps if you sniff on a fresh lemon peel or take a fresh lime soda, everytime you feel nauseous.

Another problem that a pregnant mother has to deal with is the appearance of stretch marks. This is inevitable for a lot of women as weight gain can naturally cause your skin to stretch. However, there are ways to lessen or prevent these stretch marks from appearing. One way is to always make your skin supple and elastic by applying moisturizing agents or lotions on your skin, especially on the abdominal area. Moisturizers containing cocoa butter are said to be very good in sustaining your skin’s elasticity. There are also many who can attest that regular oil massage, with the use of lavender or almond oils, can prevent the appearance of stretch marks. Of course, exercise like yoga is also a very good to remedy the problem of stretch marks as this does not only tones your muscles but also makes them firm.

There are so many things that you can do to cope with the more minor problems that come with pregnancy. So, if you have nausea or stretch marks, consider yourself lucky, as you can do something about them.

There is much more to learn and much more to know about the things you can do during pregnancy that affect the health of your embryo till his birth.
